Moto g5s and g5s plus.New budget kings in sub 20k segment?
Successor to moto g series, Moto g5s and Moto g5s Plus launched. What's New?
After months of leaks and rumours,Motorola finally launched the
Moto g5s and g5s plus. These are considered to be the upgraded versions of the Moto g5 and the g5 Plus .Though the upgrades are not so big, these can be the new budget kings under the sub 20k segment.
Though both the phones retain a lot from their older siblings, what we immediately notice is the all new metal body. Now both the smartphones have switched to the metal unibody design, which , at least in the pictures, seems quite good. The screen size has got a bump up too. Moto g5s plus now have a 5.5" screen while the Moto g5s has a 5.2" display. Both are full hd amoled panels with corning gorilla glass for protection . Micro usb and 3.5 mm headphone jacks are still there. Both have a 3000 mah battery to power the device along with the support of moto turbo charge. Volte support is still there along with all the sensors you would expect, including the fingerprint sensor. Both devices run on android nougat 7.1.1 out of the box.
Now, what's different on both the devices is the SoC and the cameras. Moto g5s still runs on snapdragon 430, while the bigger brother enjoys snapdragon 625.The g5s comes in 3/32 gb configuration only, and the g5s plus comes in both 3/32 as well as 4/64 gb configurations. The storage on both the devices can be expanded upto 128gb via the hybrid slot.
Now talking about what separates both devices apart: the cameras. For g5s, it's 5 mp f/2.0 for the front, along with led flash, while the rear camera has been bumped to 16 mp f/2.0 with dual tone dual led flash.Nothing exciting,I know. What's really exciting is the dual camera setup on the moto g5s plus.On the front, there is a 8 mp f/2.0 sensor with led flash while for the rear, there are two 13 mp f/2.0 sensors, and the setup is similar to what we find on a lot of huawei devices these days. One monochrome sensor to get the depth information, while the other is regular RGB sensor.Combined, the sensors should perform great, specially in high dynamic conditions and in low light, well,at least on paper.
The moto g5s is priced 249 Euros (around Rs 18,800), the Moto g5s is available for 299 Euros (around Rs 22,500) for the 4/64 gb variant. While the price seems a little high, going by the past records of motorola, they might launch cheaper in India, well, under the 20k mark. For now, there's no word about India launch, but they might come to India soon,in a month or so.
